The School of Foreign Languages has its roots in the English Department of Xuchang Normal College, making it one of the earliest academic units established at Xuchang University. The school’s history dates back to 1963, when it first launched an English teacher training program. In 1977, the English Section was officially established, introducing a dedicated English major with an emphasis on teacher education. The unit was renamed the Department of English in 1989, and after the university transitioned to a four-year undergraduate institution in 2002, it became the School of Foreign Languages. Today, the School offers three undergraduate programs—English, Translation and Interpreting, and Business English—with nearly 900 full-time students currently enrolled.
